24th & 25th August 2008 Rounds 7 & 8
The meeting was sponsored by Terry Rudd Motorcycles.
Over the bank holiday weekend Norfolk & Suffolk Junior Motorcycle Club succeeded at the second attempt to hold a 2 day meeting at their Gt Hockham track (the previous attempt had been abandoned during monsoon
season). The meeting was sponsored by Terry Rudd Motorcycles.

A few spots of rain made the going difficult for the morning, but the track maintenance crew, under Tim Watling, had done some marvellous work and improved the surface in areas that needed attention and had reshaped several jumps and berms including the addition of a huge hill that some riders and parents were calling Mount Everest. By Monday morning the guys had smoothed out the ruts from Sundays racing and added another drop-off just for good measure.

By the time practice was finished the track was looking good and riding well for the 1st Auto Race, won by George Greg-Pettitt. In fact over the whole weekend he only managed to lose 13 points, finishing second to James Dutton once and then having a terrible time in the final race with a 6th, he still managed to take the overall. Jake Barsby was a steady third overall followed by Freddie Flowers.

Ryan Vickers looked to be regaining some of his pre-injury form with a win in the second & third races of the 65s. Difficult conditions in a couple of sections on the full track meant that many riders had at least one spill in race one, with several managing three or four trips to the floor. Harvey Thomas was particularly frustrated riding his 09 KTM, and Jack Youngs struggled to show his speed from a fortnight ago. Max Bickers put in a hard days riding on the Sunday, missing out on Monday. Kane Fisher managed to assert his authority over Vickers and the rest of the field as he came away with maximum points on Monday, finishing 1st overall. Edward Elers raced well all weekend and had 2 third place finishes which left him third overall. Connor Bunkle had a career best in the final heat as he clinched 4th, propelling him to 8th overall. Harry Richardson DNF’d the final heat as his handlebars came loose after a small spill. Fast-starter Josh Bryenton took the holeshot award but was unable to match the pace of the front-runners. Matthew Riches performed well all weekend, just beating the unfortunate Aidan Bunning who tasted the dirt far too often, as did Kyle Wilby.

In the 85 small wheel groups first race Ben Cole romped away with the win while Tyler Gray came a cropper and ended up in a ditch, bending his sub-frame and handlebars; cue frantic repairs by his dad, Paul. In the second outing Phil Price had a big one, and a trip to the ambulance, which meant that he missed the restart. One lap before the end Albert van Dyke crashed heavily and the race result was taken from the previous lap meaning Ryan Smith missed out on 6th place which he had only just taken from Ellis MacBain. On Monday Cole had a nightmare first race dropping his bike on the face of a jump, then again on the landing side and once more halfway round, before racking up 2 more wins to take the overall. Declan Whittles steady weekend, spent plugging away inside the top 5 and a race win on Sunday saw him take second overall, and Gray third. Jay Hillier had a good 2 days racing finishing seventeenth overall.

Biggest group of the weekend was the Big wheels won overall by David Kemp, but he didn’t have it all his own way having to fight with Shaun Southgate and take the lead from Holeshot winner Aidan Wigger, third place overall was taken by Robert Hales who was unable to repeat his win from Sunday and Luke Parker fourth overall who was consistent all weekend. Ashley Smith, Oliver Bryenton and Ryan Mackintosh all tied on 108 points filling 21st to 23rd. As usual the boys all raced hard and the odd mistake/punctures throughout the field meant that final positions were hard to predict.

Harry Noakes took all six chequered flags over the 2 days and stole the honours from Will Beevor in the Schoolboys, while Bruno van Dyke, Sam Wakeham and George Foames chased hard. Robbie Blaxell had a steady weekend, plugging away and picking up the points. He pipped Charlotte Bell to 19th overall as her clutch problems from Sunday joined forces with mechanical gremlins meaning she missed her last race on Monday.

A smaller than normal Adult group was won by Mark Rudd, with Craig Parker second. Paul Richardson took 3 third places over the 2 days and finished third overall, just pipping Richard Beevor on the basis of a higher place finish in the final heat. Justin Green was happy to finish 6th overall.
