Cole & Fisher Dominate at Great Hockham
Norfolk & Suffolk Junior Motorcycle Club held a fantastic day of racing at their Great Hockham track sponsored by Southside Motocross. With a beautifully prepared track and a better day’s weather than forecast, the Autos started the racing. Fred Clements scored an even 100 points while a clutch problem in race one meant that James Dutton had to push his bike over the line and ruined his chances of scoring a maximum. The chequered flag was taken by Jake Barsby, and he followed it up with 2 convincing second places. Louis Thomas took second in opening encounter having overcome mechanical problems in practice.
Kane Fisher looked at ease as he romped home in all three 65cc races with Spence Brooking collecting three second places. Edward Elers was on form as he finished day in sixth. Matthew Riches was consistent and ended up 17th overall, just 2 points behind Joshua Royal and Max Bickers finished third overall after having to fight through the field from an uncharacteristic poor start.
In the Small Wheels group Declan Whittle deserves a mention as he improved race upon race to finish fourth overall. His perseverance was rewarded in race one after he finally got past Ryan O’Sullivan to finish fifth, the latter day eventually turning sour in the rain and compounded by a puncture meant that he finished eighth overall. Ryan Smith got a lot of encouragement from his friends and family though he lost a hard fought battle with Arthur Draper in heat 2. Ben Cole rode to victory in all 3 races and looked at ease throughout. Lewis Holmes pipped William van Dyke to 12th with just one point in it, while Ryan Rudd lost out on 10th place to Ryan Smith having tied.
David Kemp took the Big Wheels overall, losing out on a maximum as Luke Parker took the final race chequered flag first. Consistent Rob Hales claimed third places in all three outings while further down the field Michael Lyons had a steady ride building his confidence. 10th to 14th (Harry Hedges-Staines, Will Nice, Sam Boydell, Sam Bezzina & Jordan Mustard) were separated by just a few points.
The top 5 in the schoolboys pulled away from the rest of the group at an amazing pace with Bruno van Dyke coming out on top in his battle with Will Beevor. George Foames DNF in the second outing meant that he dropped out of the top 10 but he was back with a vengeance for the finale. Charlotte Bell rode a great defensive race in moto 2 holding on to 17th place as Nathan Kingfisher and Thomas Bennett tried to outdo each other and be the first to pass her. Stacey Henderson also proved her worth finishing a respectable 23rd in race 3 with quite a few lads unable to match her pace.
Wringing the neck of his ailing CR250F, Mark Bunning ground out a fifth overall while Paul Bennett completed a maximum in the Adults. Coming from dead last in a pile up in the first corner of the last race he took the lead from Mark Rudd with just a lap to go. Looking tired by the end of the day, Paul Richardson was a steady 10th overall.
The Bavin “boys” finished just 2 points apart again in 6th & 7th.
